My current virus protection has expired and I need to purchase something tonight. I am looking at CA 59.99 (which is what I just had) Norton for 14.99 and McAfee for 29.99. Which one is best or are there others to suggest?

What is the best spyware scanner that I can use? what’s the website? I would prefer those free downloads but at the same time is reliable and efficient in protecting my computer thanks

Forget MALAWARE. It doesn’t do half its intended job. Get AVAST. Its the most reliable, and you can register for FREE for 1 year and will work in the background after it has scanned your computer.

It won’t slow down your computer, works very fast, and you won’t need ANY other software either.

Download it, install it and wen it asks for a BOOT scan, select YES. It will reboot and perfornt the scan which it only does once and takes about 30 min but well worth it. WHen it finds any virus or tronjans, it will ask you what to do . Select DELETE ALL. and let it complete the scan and boot to windows. That’s it.

No more need to boot scan unless it asks you.

Im looking for peoples opinions on the best antivirus, antispyware software that they have had experience with. I would also like something with internet security perhaps. something that will not slow my computer down with a bunch of updates and what not.

What works good on my computer may not run very good on yours. First thing you should do is not buy one in till you’ve tried it. All the good programs offer a free trial. Now days you really don’t have to have a bunch of different programs. Some of the security suites do a great job. I always tell users to get Malwarebytes anti-malware free version for their back up scanner. You can’t get much better than Norton Internet Security that’s not just my opinion, but backed up by most of the legit tests of security suites. It’s anti-virus engine won anti-virus of the year at AV comparatives.
Also Kaspersky Internet Security is very good but runs a little heaver than Norton. It has a great firewall, and also offers sandbox protection.
If you want light then look at Nod32. Very light running and good solid protection.

I just wanted to know what you think. What would be the ideal combination of security programmes that would not make your computer suffer. Here is the list.

OK….let’s say MONEY WAS NOT A PROBLEM.
What would you chose then.
I know a few of those i put up are free. I think ZoneAlarm Basic does justice. BUT I think AVG just is BAD. BitDefender is VERY Cheap (US$ 11.00 / year) and so far…is great!
Maybe i should say i am running BitDefender, windows defender, spybot, adaware, & ZoneAlarm Pro.. I want to know what i can do without! So what to add…uninstall?

if you say that cost doesn’t matter, then go fo ZoneAlarm Internet Security, coz it’s a combination of antivirus and antispyware(as advertised), i’ve tried McAfee Internet Security Suite before, it’s superb but it’s antispyware database is unsatisfactory, and it’s just good for 1 yr, just like its other rival.

but based from my personal choices, i’m currently using Avast 4 Home Edition 4.7 (free from www.avast.com), just don’t forget to register for free so you’ll have a 14 months real time protection, (i’ve been to AVG free edition, and it’s a lame one)

plus i’m using Spyware Terminator 1.3 Basic, also free from www.spywareterminator.com this is so far the best antispyware i’ve ever used (from AdAware, Spybot S&D, Spyware Blaster, Spyware Doctor, etc.) it has a regular updates plus good interface.

plus i’m also using the Windows Defender from Microsoft, and Yahoo AntiSpy, to make a further defense tools.

lastly, i’m also using the ZoneAlarm 6.5 Beta version, as a secondary firewall aside from the windows, to further strengthen my fortress.

I have been told not to pay for spyware for my computer, that you can get free downloads. Is this true, if so where?

Its all a matter of opinion. I use Avast , I have also got superantispyware and Malwarebytes. I recently changed to Comodo firewall which seems fine and I seem to boot up quicker. They are all free for personal use and I have had no trouble with Viruses Trojans Hackers etc. I also use Windows Defender from the Microsoft site. It is safe to use two anti-spy products but never use more than one A/V as it can cause conflicts. You should run A/V and anti spy weekly. Hope this helps

Ummmmmm, actually that will pretty much be the case with everyone. It is a subscription, like with your telephone service or the newspaper that you get. If you want to get the updated version ona regular basis (which you do, otherwise there is no point), you are just going to have to pay them.

Kaspersky Internet Security 6.0 is exactly what you are looking for. It contains an antivirus, antispyware, and a firewall. They are the best out there. It is a Russian company so what do you expect. The link I provided shows a comparison between Kaspersky, McAfee, and Norton.

Don’t waste your money on anything else, especially McAfee and Norton. They used to be good but recently they have just been crap. The softwares (running in the background) are just so…BIG and they bog down your computer. They take up so much RAM and processing power that they are not even worth it.

Now, if you want to stay free, then go with AVG.

AVG is completely free and it is actually very decent. I think AVG is even better than Norton or McAfee. The only thing is that it is only an anti-virus. AVG is very small and you won’t even notice it running in the background.

Zone Alarm is the free firewall to get. They are pretty good too for a free software.

So AVG and ZoneAlarm is what I use.

I used to do this for a living and I have tested Kaspersky, McAfee, Norton, and AVG. Kaspersky won because there this one virus which was embedded in a compressed file and not even AVG was able to detect it. Kaspersky was the only one that detected and succesfully cleaned out the virus.
