How can I get rid of these annoying CiD pop-ups? It’s turning me crazy! Yes, I’ve downloaded anti-spy ware numerous times and I have my pop-blocker on all the time, but these pop-upos STILL appear constantly slowing down my computer

you have to click Start>Control Panel>add and remove prorams.
Then you look for <cid help> and remove it.

it installed itself onto my computer and I got rid of it and its all gone!

i am using windows 98 and the spyware button is gone from my toolbar. I loved using it to get rid of my spyware. i upgraded my toolbar and now it is gone. how do I get it back so I can scan for spyware?

Since you upgraded your Yahoo Toolbar the Yahoo Spyware has been replaced with the option to buy The Norton Spyware Remover. You can buy that program if you want or go back to the old Yahoo Toolbar version you had before the upgrade. If you decide to go back to the previous version of the Yahoo Toolbar then this is what you will need to do.

Click the Pencil and select uninstall and complete the process to uninstall Yahoo Toolbar. After you have uninstalled Yahoo Toolbar exit Internet Explorer and then bring it back up. Yahoo Toolbar should be gone and you can proceed to install the old version once again. Go to CNET and downloaded the version previous to the upgrade. Here is the addy for the download page:

Is the AdVantage advertising software a spyware or virus program?
I downloaded a free trial of Winace. It says in order to receive a free Winace license I must download the advantage advertising software. I recently had a big problem with viruses and spyware on my computer so I do not want to go through that again. Is advantage advertising software going to damage my computer or create popups? Thanks, everyone.

WinAce is free as long as the WhenU / MeMedia AdVantage advertising remains bundled with it. This type of "free" software is called adware, meaning for the continued usage of the bundle software, i.e. WInAce, you are permitting the WhenU/Me Media AdVantage to advertise other products using your terminal as the billboard, thus pop-ups, which WinAce promises to be less intrusive

On November 23, 2007, version 2.69 of WinACE was released with MeMedia AdVantage adware, which replaced WhenU. Although WhenU’s advertising software declared that it poses no risk of harm to users’ computers, many considered it to be unsafe because it served pop-up advertisements and slows down your computer. Lavasoft’s AdAware and Computer Associates’ PestPatrol lists WhenU as an adware.

On the plus side, MeMedia AdVantage earned the TRUSTe Trusted Download Program Certification last June 16 2007 see:

But MeMedia founded in 2000 is formerly known as WhenU.com, thus, "same dog, different collar, different tricks"

So basically, MeMedia AdVantage is a legitimate and certified "spyware" [thus, not a VIRUS, as others might say]. The problem with this is some other spyware makers might mimic the file names, e.g., *.dll, *.exe, used by the bundled software with MeMedia AdVantage and thus it could trick your computer that what you are receiving is still part of the MeMedia Advantage, while in reality it would be an entirely different ad. Thus, your computer — now open to AdVantage — is prone to other popups mimicking AdVantage.

Beware, though ,if you uninstall MeMedia AdVantage, the WinAce’s functionality will cease. For uninstall instructions, see their website: http://www.memedia.com/advantage/moreinfo.html

If you are using bundled adware WinAce for file compression, I recommend you try a no-popups, free, and used with Windows-based shell: Ice420U.exe from http://www.iceows.com/Download/Ice420U.exe

I had a fraud spyware killer on my cumputer called antivirus and i got rid of it and then there still is this stupid warning sign on my desktop that says "Warning"Spyware detected on cumputer!install a antispyware software on your cumputer to clean it.Do you have any solutions for me.Please Please Please!!!HELP ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When you start up in safe mode sign on with the administrator profile. I had a Dell laptop in last week with something like that. Clicked on "start" and it showed no program files control panel etc. Only way I could get into the add/remove in the control panel was by signing on as admin in safe mode. Then I was able to uninstall that phony anti-virus prog and run the anti-virus prog and actually get rid of the trojans. Supposedly the customers GF got them surfing porn on a site with "frog" in its name.

Today’s video will show you how to properly use the ESET NOD32 Online Scanner and Virus Removal Utility. NOD32 is an extremely reputable company in the anti-virus world, and their online scanner is a fantastic tool for any IT professional or basic home user to have in the instance of a serious infection. One important thing to note is that this scanner will not work if you do not have networking or the internet available on the machine you are planning to run it on. That being said, this is one of the reasons we booted our computers in safe mode with networking in episode 2 of this series. Using the ESET NOD32 online scanner, I would be surprised if it didn’t locate the virus on your machine, but it wouldn’t be the first time, just hang in there – we’ll track it down.
