Why would a virus or malware/spyware scan take over 8 hours?
I am trying to get rid of a nasty malware and I am running the scans necessary and it is taking soooo long. It has never taken so long before. I am running Malwarebytes and I will run MSE after that, but MBAM is taking so long. Could this be because of the viruses or malware? Should I let it keep going or break it off?? Thanks
I can help you. keep at it but do things differently. Fist uninstall Malwarebytes. Yes that’s right , it’s no good. Now follow these instructions and it may, I said may get rid of whatever you have, there’s no guarantee but you’ll stand a better chance. Now I don’t know what infection or infections you got and i don’t know if your OS is XP, Vista, Or 7; Either way this will help:
1. go to this website: http://safety.live.com
Follow the install instructions and do a full scan. It will take over three hours. If you do not have three hours pay a tech to fix it for you.
2. Go to http://www.microsoft.com
Go to downloads. Search this keyword "malicious"
You will se a download called the Microsoft malicious Software removal tool (MRT). Download it and run a quick scan to start. That will take approx. 25 minutes. if you have an infection it will detect it and fix it. If you’re really bad off it will tell you it needs to do a full scan. That will take 3-6 hours. if you do not have 3-6 hours, pay a tech to fix it for you.
3. Do you have legitimate antivirus software? If so update your definitions and do a full scan in safe mode.
4. If you do not have any legitimate antivirus software, get some.
I recommend in this case a free version AVG 9.0. It’s quick, free and easy to use. I’ll include the link.
Now after you do all this like said it may not 100% clean the infection. Hope that helps although it’s probably not what you wanted to hear. that’s the best advice I can give.
